Remember when Disney announced a show centered around Lando Calrissian way back in December 2020? It was one of the many series that the Mouse House brought up during their Investors Day that year, with shows like Andor and Ahsoka revealed then as well. Flash forward to today, and we’ve already seen Andor and Ahsoka is set to premiere in less than a month. We’ve heard nothing, however, about Lando… until now.

Gizmodo’s io9 has confirmed not only that this series is still happening, but that Donald Glover is officially on board to play Lando and also write the show with his brother, Stephen Glover. Disney previously announced that Justin Simien was attached to the project, but Simien apparently left the series to focus his attention on Haunted Mansion, which premieres in theaters this weekend.

Lando Calrissian, of course, is the suave smuggler/con man who has a long history with Han Solo and ultimately joins him and the rest of the Rebels in the fight against the Empire. Billy Dee Williams first played the character in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, and Donald Glover played a younger version of him in the 2018 film Solo: A Star Wars Story.

There’s no news on what story will be covered in Lando or where in the timeline it will take place, though Glover’s casting suggests it will be sometime before the events of George Lucas’ first film. We also don’t know how far into production the Lando series is, and all work is now on hold because of the writers’ and actors’ strikes. This news, however, is confirmation that the series is still in the works—so here’s hoping we’ll see it on the small screen at some point in the future.
